This Cracks Me UP!

I am trying my BEST to teach our little monkeys how to help around the house. I think it's so important for so many reasons. Firt of all, it teaches children to be unselfish and to think of someone other than themselves. If you are serving your family, your focus is no longer on YOU.

Helping me with housework teaches the children to honor me as their mother. The Bible teaches us to "Honor your father and mother", and it is so important. I can think of so many times I did not honor my parents or my Lord. Prayerfully we are teaching our children early how to honor us, as it is a God-given commandment! :)

Housework also teaches our children the importance of keeping a neat home and it gives them the skills to do it. If they go off to college having never cleaned a toilet or folded laundry, I would not have equipped them well. It is our job as parents to equip our children.

I am not perfect at teaching our children or doing any of the above, as you will see in the picture below. I asked one of the children to unload the dishwasher. This is what I found:

It was no one's fault but mine that I didn't explain the job well! I forgot to mention putting things away! However, our little one did stack well, didn't she?!

Can you IMAGINE?

As I have said before, our oldest girls are still quite naive. After all, they think babies come out of your actual leg!! So, it was so precious to hear this little story one day from D when they finished with their riding lesson.

D said to me, "Mama, I just saw Smokey's privates and it sticks out and has flies all over it!! Can you IMAGINE??" Her little face telling me that story was so funny. It may not be communicated well in writing, but it was hilarious! No, darling, I don't WANT to imagine having flies all over my privates!

Look Mommy....

"Look, Mommy, that lady has a baby in her tummy. I wonder if it's a girl or a boy", our 5 year old politely commented.

"I don't know, honey, but you never ask a lady if she is pregnant. What if her tummy is just big like that?", I replied.

K answered, horrified, "That would be TERRIBLE!!!!"

Things are not always as they appear...

I do like to wake up and shower and put on makeup, but this does not mean I "have it all together". However, I guess it appears that way sometimes to others.

A cute new friend of mine at preschool exclaimed one day, "How do you do it? You are so put together, and you have to get five children dressed and out the door. You are here, calm and collected, and I have 2 children and have lost a shoe and feel very frazzled!"

I assured her that I do not "have it all together" and that looks can be deceiving, but she didn't seem to believe me. Later that very same morning, I went to the bathroom. I wear a lot of pants, but I happened to be in a dress with tights and boots that particular morning. In the bathroom, I realized my underwear was on "caddy wampus", as my mama says!! I had the sides where the middle should be. Since I was wearing tights and boots, I decided it was too much trouble to correct it, so I walked around all day with my underwear wrong! I laughed out loud when I saw it!! I could hardly wait to find H back at school. I ran up to her when I spotted her, and let her know what had happened. LOOKS CAN BE DECEIVING!!!

Blog friends, we all struggle and no one has it all together... unless they have a lot of help! And even then, we all have faults, though some hide them better than others:).
