This Cracks Me UP!

I am trying my BEST to teach our little monkeys how to help around the house. I think it's so important for so many reasons. Firt of all, it teaches children to be unselfish and to think of someone other than themselves. If you are serving your family, your focus is no longer on YOU.

Helping me with housework teaches the children to honor me as their mother. The Bible teaches us to "Honor your father and mother", and it is so important. I can think of so many times I did not honor my parents or my Lord. Prayerfully we are teaching our children early how to honor us, as it is a God-given commandment! :)

Housework also teaches our children the importance of keeping a neat home and it gives them the skills to do it. If they go off to college having never cleaned a toilet or folded laundry, I would not have equipped them well. It is our job as parents to equip our children.

I am not perfect at teaching our children or doing any of the above, as you will see in the picture below. I asked one of the children to unload the dishwasher. This is what I found:

It was no one's fault but mine that I didn't explain the job well! I forgot to mention putting things away! However, our little one did stack well, didn't she?!

I have to say she followed instructions.:) You can work on the putting away part next time. One step at a time you'll get there!!

I couldn't agree more with all you said. I am so sick of seeing parents who teach their children nothing, choosing instead the try to be their best friend. You are a GREAT mom!

Good on ya. This is terrific.
I used to make charts when they were young and getting all gold star stickers in a row for doing your job and doing it well was the pay off. Those stickers translated into some kind of other treat. We use a different system now and it has worked well. The thing I point out to them is they help create the need for the work to be done, therefore, they need to help with the work.
Everyone has their ideas about this, but we, as parents, give them an allowance, because I also think we have to teach our kids responsibility about money. The allowance system is really a big incentive. Everyone gets the same ammount and there is an expectation about paying tithing and saving, whatever they have left over is theirs to do what they want with.
I got a good laugh out of that picture. She did exactly what you asked her to do didn't she? Sometimes we have to be very specific about what we want done. I have a story about this, but I can't post it here, I'll email you with it.
This is very important, stick with it. Way to go!
