Our Sweet Baby Angel

We had quite a scare this weekend. Our little angel, Hurricane, was put to bed on Saturday night and then came downstairs asking for milk. DH & I were selfishly looking forward to a date night with a movie a friend had loaned us. We asked our little Hurricane to go back to bed. As she walked up the stairs, she tripped and fell. We heard a loud cry. Bless her heart. DH reached her first and picked her up. Blood was pouring out of her precious mouth. We realized she had bit her tongue. I tried to look at it, but I wanted to pass out. She had bit it all the way across with multiple lacerations. It would not stop bleeding. Thankfully my dear friend rushed over so that I could ride with DH to the Emergency Clinic.

I was panicked by the time we arrived at the clinic. She was continuing to bleed, and we were all very afraid. It looked horrifying! The nurse brought us a pale pink tongue-colored ice pop for her to put on the tongue. You do not want a color that will mask the injury until the doctor has seen it. I sang songs like "Jesus Loves Me", prayed, and cried. DH kept telling me I needed to be strong for our sweet baby. The doctor finally came in the room. He examined her tongue and assured us she is going to be okay. He explained that she had a moderate wound and that it actually had good placement. We praised God that it was not severe (Trust me, you do not want to see anything more severe than this!). He said that he would not try to put stitches in in since it was not clipped on the side and that it would heal on its own. We thanked the Lord over and over that she is okay! The bleeding finally stopped after 2 ice pops. She came home on a diet of very soft foods only and no salt. Her tongue has healed in amazing ways. Thank you, Lord!

Wednesday Words from the Backseat....

As you have already surmised, our Hurricane is a little MESS with a capital M! As we were driving in the car, her brother was apparently bothering her. I hear her little voice say, "No one talk to me; I am PRAYING!" It was hilarious and we all had to giggle. She knew no one could argue with a girl who is busy praying!

Out of the Mouths of Babes

Our Hurricane is full of life and love. She can be quite fiesty, but she can also be the sweetest little girl in the world. We've been working with her diligently lately to help her learn to listen and obey. It is not easy and I often want to give up.
Our family is also working on learning the Children's Catechism. It is a little book of questions and answers that help a child learn what he or she believes and why. An example is:
1. Q: Who made you?
A: God.
2. Q: What else did God make?
A: God made all things.

On Sunday, we were driving to church along the prettiest street in Tampa. It is right on the Bay so bikers and walkers love it. The walkway was filled with bikers, strollers, skaters, and walkers. It is still quite hot here and several of the men were not wearing their shirts. First, there were squeals of, "Ooooo..... that man is not wearing his shirt!" Then, our Hurricane responded matter-of-factly, "God made all the boobs". We couldn't help but laugh! Yes, Hurricane, I guess He did.

Out of the Mouths of Babes

Today our Hurricane complained that her ear hurts. It turns out she has a very bad ear infection. I asked her if it hurts, and that sweet little thing replied, "Yes, it SERIOUSLY hurts". Sweet little love! We're praying for a QUICK recovery!

Dearest little one...

Dearest little one,

It seems like just yesterday you were a tiny newborn baby, who depended on me for everything. You have grown in a flash and are now an independent little three year old. Where did those 3 years go? You were beautiful at birth, and you are even more beautiful now. You love your siblings and are a delight to us all. Thank you for being a true joy. Your siblings had to be moved out of their cribs because of you and your sister needing a bed. For the first time, I didn't have to rush a baby out of her crib. It pained me to let you get out of your crib and into a big girl bed, but I knew it was time. You're a big girl now, as much as I want you to still be my baby:). So, I took pictures of you in your crib, where you've slept for 3 years.

Then, your dear Daddy carefully put together your new big girl bed. We bought you a little toddler bed with lambs on it since you share a room with your big sister. Your room didn't need two twin beds. After all, you need some room to play! Your new bed is the perfect size. You carefully crawled into your new bed and stayed awake giggling with your big sister.

At long last, you fell asleep, like a little angel. You are one precious baby girl. We are all so proud of you. As I dried my tears, I couldn't help but smile to see you sleeping so happily in your brand new big girl bed. You saw my tears streaming down my face when I put you to bed. You looked at me and in your very own words, you said, "Mommy, I'm your big girl but I'm your baby too." Yes, my little love, you sure are. All five of you will always be my babies.

Shampoo and Set?

I promise I really do watch my children. I don't spend all of my time doing chores or reading blogs. I mean, really. I am a very observant mama. I know exactly what is going on at all times. I don't talk to friends on the phone in the presence of my children. What kind of mama does that?

So I have no idea how to explain what I saw when my attention was diverted for a few minutes by a phone call. I rounded the corner to find our Monkey giving Hurricane a shampoo at their little kitchen!! Both girls were as happy as two peas in a pod! Hilarious!

Just the sweetest...

Our little Hurricane came home from school today with a bouquet of love for Mama and Daddy. It is just precious and an idea I wish I had used with our older 4 children! The teachers cut out hearts, let the children decorate them with glitter, and then put then on a stem. I think they used either pipe cleaners or popsicle sticks. They wrapped the "bouquet" with pink tissue paper and tied it with a ribbon. The ribbon has a sweet picture of our baby girl tied to it. What a PERFECT bouquet that I will treasure forever! What are some of your favorite Valentine's treats?

Hurricane

Me: "Hurricane, why are you so cute?"

Hurricane: " 'Cos I have to."

Me: "Why do you have to?"

Hurricane: " 'Cos I wanna watch a movie."

Girl's got game, doesn't she?

Picture of a good friend

Our youngest had a friend over for a playdate the other day while her friend's mama enjoyed time with her new baby. Isn't my H just the best little friend on a playdate? Don't you love how she is spending time playing with and encouraging her friend?! Poor thing. She had a hard time sharing.

Wednesday Words from the backseat....on Thursdays

Driving home from preschool I was playing a CD my friend, HappyMommy, made me. Hurricane said, "That's MY Jesus" when she heard the woman singing something about "my Jesus".

I smiled, thinking she really gets it. "That's right, sweetie".

"It's not HER Jesus!!" she said with great conviction. Turns out I still have a lot of work to do!

Out of the Mouths of babes

"Mommy, I'm scared. The air is scary in der."

"What do you mean, H? Let me see." We walked into our friend's guest bath to see what air was scary. It was the fan. H was afraid of the fan.

"It's okay, Hurricane H, it's just the fan."

H replied, "I scared of da air. It's scary. Jesus is in my heart."

"Yes, sweetie, He is. You don't need to be scared."

I thought it was so sweet to hear her say those words as if she was able to comfort herself by reminding herself that Jesus is in her heart. What a sweet girl! Love you, Hurricane!
