If you live in Florida, you may be blessed to have a staghorn fern or two in your yard. These ferns are very beautiful and can be found attached to trees or hanging from a chain or in a hanging basket. They can grow to be enormous! The cold weather was hard on our tropical plants this year. A great way to nourish your staghorn fern is to place a banana peel in the brown parts of the plant. As the banana peel decays, it will feed your fern! What a way to help your garden grow!

I love ferns they are so delicate looking. The idea of the peel is a grand idea, now all I need to do is find a fern to live in AZ. Happy Tuesday
Love the ferns but in COLD PA it isn't easy to keep them over winter :( Think I'll try one this summer and use the banana idea!

Have never heard that about a banana peel. Wonder if it works on ALL ferns? Have never heard of that kind of fern. Here in NC we usually use Boston Ferns. Thanks for the tip!
A huge hanging staghorn is a "must have" in our neighborhood! We have two--a really big one--about 12 years old--hanging from a tree in the corner of our front yard and a smaller one that we started about 5 years ago hanging in the back yard. My husband has always put banana peels in them. It really seems to work! (and be sure to cover them when the temp dips--we use a couple of tarps and utility clamps for the big one)!
