I am Bound

I have been learning so much at church in the past months. This week we learned about living our lives "as if not". The sermon was on not focusing on things and the love of money, but that our lives should be spent loving and worshipping the Lord. (My summary may not be perfect, but it is what I took away from it). As a girl whose mind can drift during a sermon to thoughts of the week's menu, I was convicted. What does the way I spend my time tell you about what is most important in my life? Am I focused on the next big purchase or on our Great Big God?
With the news of so many tragic events from the hurricane that hit Haiti to things much closer to home, I am reminded that this life is not forever. I am prodded to turn to the Lord in ALL things. I want to know Him better and to love Him more. I am praying that my life will truly glorify Him and Him alone. It's hard in a society that encourages glorifying oneself in how we act, dress, or even how we give. May my heart be His and may I live "as if not". How convicting and encouraging at the same time. I don't pretend to be a perfect believer. Rather, I am a very sinful, flawed person who is saved by grace. Thank you, Lord! I think this hymn puts things in perspective:).

On Jordan's Stormy Banks

1. On Jordan’s stormy banks I stand,
And cast a wishful eye
To Canaan’s fair and happy land,
Where my possessions lie.

2. All o’er those wide extended plains,
Shines one eternal day;
There God the Son forever reigns,
And scatters night away.

Chorus: I am bound (I am bound)
I am bound (I am bound)
I am bound for promised land,
I am bound (I am bound)
I am bound (I am bound)
I am bound for promised land.

3. No chilling winds nor poisonous breath
Can reach that healthful shore;
Sickness, sorrow, pain and death,
Are felt and feared no more.
(Repeat chorus)

4. When shall I reach that happy place,
And be forever blessed?
When shall I see my Father’s face,
And in His bosom rest?
(Repeat chorus)
