Tuesday's Tip

Are you plagued with a dishwasher that leaves you with dirty dishes? Do your "clean" dishes often have a white film on them? This seems to be a constant problem here in Florida. Perhaps it is because of the salt content in the water. This past week our dishes were looking REALLY dingy. DH was particularly discouraged. I happened to talk to my friend, W, as we were planning a party together at her home. She commented that she did not know what she was going to do about glasses because her dishwasher was not working correctly. "What do you mean?," I asked. She explained that her dishes has a white film on them and looked dirty after being washed. I told her I felt her pain! We have the same problem!

Well, her dishwasher repair man gave her the answer we both needed. I do believe that Florida dishwashers have a shorter life span because of the hard water. However, he suggested filling a Pyrex glass measuring cup with 2 cups of white vinegar and then to place it in between the rungs so that it stands up. Then, you run the dishwasher. It will remove the film from your dishes. It has made a huge difference at Mama Henley's house! Happy Tuesday's Tip!

Mama Henley! What you are speaking about happens to be my expertise! You see Florida's water is plagued with chlorine, lime and clacium (as you learned) leaving white film and deposits not only on your dishes but also throughout your house on bathroom fixtures and even in your washing machine. Infact if you read the warranty for your dishwasher it may say you need soft water. There are many ways to achieve soft water. If you are interested in learning more about treating your water check out www.flawatertreatment.com or you can always email me.

Good idea...my daughter has more problems with this than I do so I will pass it along. I enjoy just hand washing things a lot, but only if it is a few things. Something homey about it...ha!

We don't necessarily have the film, but I feel a little vinegar might sparkle things up a bit!

Great tip!

I love this tip! I have a dishwasher that I just cannot stand; and my husband gives me grief since it is supposed to be one of the "best". Ha! I secretly wish that it will just go to the big dishwasher yard in the sky - soon.
Best,
Colleen

Oh I think we are all in the same boat here.
I found a wonderful little product that I use with my detergent. It's called Lemi Shine. It's sold with the dishwasher detergents, comes in a little plastic bottle with a green top. I only pour a small ammount of detergent in the reservoir (about 3 TBSP) and the I fill the larger reservoir with the Lemi Shine powder. It has worked well for me. Give it a try and tell me what you think.
I'll try the vinegar process as well.
