Tuesday's Tip for Travel

On a recent trip, I took several items that made a difference. First of all, I took my friend's recommendation and brought a travel tin candle. It was the Seda France Japanese Quince candle. What a lovely, crisp, and fresh fragrance!

Secondly, I packed several ziploc bags. These bags were used frequently. I kept my important items in a ziploc bag within our pool and beach bags. They kept our camera, phones, and money from getting wet, especially when tropical showers appeared quickly. They were also used to take home wet bathing suits, t-shirts, and cover-ups. Imagine the mildew had we not used these bags! They are also perfect for a pair of women's shoes or other items that you may want to separate from the rest of your bag. If you're lucky enough to have some extra delicious smelling shampoo or lotion, the bags work for those items too.

DH thought I was particularly brilliant for packing a nightlight. Hotel rooms have fabulous curtains to keep it really dark in the wee morning hours. However, sometimes it's difficult to find the bathroom in the middle of the night in an unfamiliar location. The night light was perfect!

We also traveled with a lot of one and five dollar bills. This way, we could easily tip for a quick golf cart ride, help with our luggage, et cetera.
I love to send postcards, so if we are not going somewhere international, I pack lots of stamps. Of course I always pack a favorite pen as well!

Sometimes I also carry a flashlight to keep by the bed. We have been awoken in the middle of the night by a fire alarm in the past, and it helped us have a quick and easy exit.
An arsenal of medicines like Pepto Bismol tablets, calms forte', ibuprofen, benadryl, hydrocortisone, and neosporin also helps!
What do you pack on trips to make life easier for you? Perhaps you can inspire Mama Henley~

Great travel tips. I may have to get a candle now. That would make the hotel room much more home-y. :)

Great tips! I also use the ziplocs... in each child's carry on backpack I put a ziploc with a change of clothes/undies & swimsuit (just in case luggage is lost/delayed at least they have extra clothes & can go to the pool right away!). I also separate out each child's underwear/socks in their own ziplock in the main suitcase so I can easily hand them their bag when they are getting dressed. I never thought of a nightlight! Great idea! :)

I just love your Tuesday's tips! I'm still young with no hubby or family yet, so some of them don't quite apply to my life just yet, but I know they will be helpful in the future! I've started keeping a cute little notebook to write down little bits of information I know I'll find useful someday soon including your tips, as well as info I find in other blogs or in magazines. Thanks for being so inspiring!

I always use ziploc freezer bags when we travel. Great for storing (especially for shampoo, hair products, sunscreen, etc..) and organizing (I put all the girls outfits, fresh undies, socks and hair accessories for each day/event in individual bags). If we're traveling for more than a couple of days, especially with the children, I also like to pack an over-the-door shoe holder. Great for keeping sunglasses, hair products, sunscreen, and other misc. stuff organized and easily accessible, and I don't have to dig around in suitcases to find them or clutter up my hotel room.

Great suggestions! I always take a small address book of all our important numbers and a small magnifying mirror that suctions on to the bathroom mirror. Sometimes even really nice hotels have kind of dim bathroom lighting, I think.
